The photo book project Life in the New documents brutalist and socialist modernist architecture in the district of Novi Beograd in Serbia, at the intersection between art and documentary photography.

The book delves into the intricate relationship between urban development and its impact on the residents of Novi Beograd. It traverses the transition from socialism to post-socialism in Serbia, questioning the fulfillment of promises for an egalitarian city designed with human needs at its core.

Through a captivating blend of portraits, art photography, and architectural shots, Andresen invites the viewer to experience the unique vision of Novi Beograd. Here, socialist modernist and brutalist structures stand as powerful symbols of the city’s distinctiveness, breaking away from the Eastern Bloc model.

The book features intimate interviews, portraits of 12 residents, and 170 pages of evocative photographs documenting the area’s iconic architecture and daily life.
